Reiki is an energy healing technique that promotes stress relief, relaxation and wellbeing. It supports our mental, emotional and spiritual health and dates as far back as Ancient Egypt.
The Reiki we have come to be familiar with was re-discovered by Dr. Mikao Usui, a Japanese, theology scholar in the early 1900’s and brought to the west (USA) by Madame Hawaya Takata in the 1940’s.
Reiki is a combination of two Japanese words: Rei meaning God or however you refer to it and Ki meaning the life force energy in all of us; our spirit/soul (in Traditional Chinese Medicine it is often referred to as Chi).
It offers us a clear channel to connect with the divine source energy to help rebalance ourselves, release things that aren’t serving us and support us on our healing journeys.
In person, Reiki is a hands on technique with a practitioner placing or hovering their hands on different chakra centers of the body. The recipient can be seated or lying down on a massage table.
Because Reiki is energy, and energy transcends time and space, it can also be sent and received remotely/from a distance. It can be sent from a practitioner in South Africa to a recipient in Australia and be felt!
The benefits of distance Reiki are that you can receive it from the comfort of your own home or another location that you find peaceful. Neither way of receiving is more effective, they both work the same.
Benefits of Reiki include:
- Stress relief
- Relaxation
- Improved mental clarity and peace
- Clears blocks in the chakras and body’s energy centers
- Helps aid in better quality sleep
- Assists and accelerates healing of the mind, body and spirit
What Reiki Isn’t
Reiki is not a medical practice. It doesn’t prescribe, diagnose, give medical or professional advice, or administer medical procedures.
It will never take the place of professional medical care or professional medical advice. While it isn’t a medical profession, it can act as a complimentary supplement to your medical care, health and self care practices and overall wellbeing and wellness.
Reiki isn’t a religion and, therefore, can be enjoyed by all faiths.
Reiki is not exclusive. It can be received and enjoyed by people of any race, sex, gender expression, sexual orientation, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, etc.
And lastly, Reiki is NOT something that can be used for wrongdoing.
It is only connected to light and the divine source energy. Any intentions to use it for ill wishes will not work.
Reiki only goes where it is needed and where it is accepted. If someone’s spirit doesn’t want to receive it, Reiki will not go to them- it never overrides anyone’s free will.
